This Is Basically What Apple Is Doing To Google
Apple is making it harder for Google to find your customers. Have you ever talked about a product and shortly after, you start seeing ads on your phone? Spooky, isn’t it? This happens because Facebook and Google have access to you through your smartphone. Apple decided to put an end to Facebook & Google’s access.
Apple’s first victim was Facebook. In 2021 Apple released an update to their iPhones. After that update, Facebook users with iPhones started seeing messages like this:
Naturally, most people tap “ask app not to track”. When people tap “ask app not to track” it prevents Facebook from seeing what people do on their phone. As a result, in less than a year, Facebook lost 10 billion dollars.
So, what does all this have to do with your business…………….EVERYTHING.
As of early 2023, Apple is doing this exact same thing to Google. Here is what that means for you:
- If you use Google ads, they will not work as well
- If you use Google Guaranteed ads, they will not work as well
- If you get most of your calls from Google, you may get less

When the Google vs. Apple cold war started in January, plumbers were the first to be hit. Here is a brief outline of what happened.
- January 2023: On average, it was a normal January for plumbing businesses
- February 2023: Things started to get a little rough for plumbing businesses
- March 2023: Apple turns up the heat. Plumbing companies lost a lot of business
- April of 2023: Apple goes all out on Google. Some plumbing companies saw record revenue lows.
Now here is the devil in disguise. Marketing companies told their clients, “Things are just slow.” Which was true. But they were missing a key part of the puzzle. Things were slow AND Google has lost its ability to track iPhone user behavior.
This is important because over half the US population uses an iPhone. Most marketing companies use Google. So marketing companies lost over half the audience they normally advertise to. Ignorantly, marketing companies are telling their trade clients to stay the course.

The marketing companies aren’t bad. It’s just that the marketing game has changed. For example, you could be great at checkers. But if someone changes the board to chess, and you don’t know it, you will lose.
